A Quick Grounding Exercise

Hey there! Try this! Let me know if this helps to ground you in the present moment.

Name…

  • 5 things you see
  • 4 things you hear
  • 3 things you can touch
  • 2 things you smell
  • 1 thing you taste

I’ll go first.

  • See: trees. chair. table. carrots. water glass.
  • Hear: cars. skateboard. T.V. talking.
  • Touch: keyboard. carrots. water glass.
  • Smell: hummus? carrots?
  • Taste: carrots

In demonstrating this for you, you might be able to guess what I’m doing: I’m munching on carrots and hummus. πŸ™‚ This grounding activity is an exercise towards building mindfulness, which has been researched a ton to help bring peace to your central nervous system. Our bodies are literally always in the present moment, but how often our minds can be either stuck in the past or carried away into the future? I know mine can be. This grounding activity helps to bring our minds and bodies in balance, in the present moment.

Maybe reading this doesn’t convince you that this exercise brings peace to your body and mind… so, if you want, I invite you to try! It just might.

In whatever specific situation we’re in right now, may we feel grounded in the present moment and be able to experience pockets of peace.

Sending you hope and encouragement, Robyn
