Invite Jesus into Doubt, Limited Capacity and Hopelessness

Today, August 10th, when I remember my trauma and healing story— and the amazing possibilities and hope that can come from seemingly hopeless situations– I’d like to share with you a sermon I preached earlier this summer on similar themes.

While most of you know that I am a Marriage and Family therapist, some of you might not know that I am also on the ordination track. I’m still discerning this path, but I preached! Interestingly enough, I was asked to preach on the famous Great Commission passage. And, I look at it from a slightly different angle than most people have heard: I look at the disciple’s doubt through a psychological lens. I touch on how we can possibly live out Jesus’ command to go and make disciples when our capacity, as is, seems limited. Lastly, I proclaim the hope that we have in Jesus’s words that he is with us always.

This is for all people, and especially for people who have been hurt by the pandemic and/or the Church. Listen with me, if you’d like!

Note: I’ve removed the introduction as well as the personalized messages to my tiny church of 50. My husband took the video from his phone. 🙂 :

May we let these truths refreshingly wash over us. 💓, Robyn

Dear Robyn, just listened to your message on the Great Commission … on the inevitability of doubt and the courage to face it and process it, on the call to authentic discipleship (how affirming, and freeing, and challenging!), and the drop dead- come alive assurance of the presence and promises and power of Jesus! Thank you, we love you, keep going strong, you have such a unique story and compelling way of sharing your faith! Your perspective is refreshing and your spirit is contagious.
