I exclaimed to my husband one night, “Way to take care of yourself!” And, though I was hoping he would laugh a little, I was also genuinely joyful in my praise of his effort to take care of himself. (For those of you who know me well, you can probably envision my wide-open eyes, outstretched hands, and big smile as I made this comment 🙂 ).
Whoever we are, there are so many reasons and ways that taking care of ourselves might be really, really difficult. All the more reason to… celebrate(!!!) when we do take care of ourselves as well as when we TRY to take care of ourselves.
In a society that doesn’t seem to nourish the idea of taking generous care of ourselves, sometimes it can be encouraging to be reminded that we aren’t alone, we aren’t crazy, and it’s a beautiful thing each time we do.
Way to take care of yourself!
Warmly,
Robyn

For More:
- More good news, when we intentionally practice a new way of being (e.g. practice taking care of ourselves and/or practicing celebrating our efforts of taking care of ourselves), we strengthen a new neural net in our brains so that with even more practice, it can become our default way of being. Pretty incredible, right?
- What if our culture’s automatic way of responding was of gentle celebration when someone took care of themselves?
