Practice being healthfully proud of yourself

I have the tendency to sometimes brush off the hard things I’ve done– and rather instead, to focus on what I haven’t been able to do or what I feel like I’m not able to do. Anyone with me?

In her podcast Checking In, Susan David (PhD) posits that sometimes to make a situation more adaptive (better and healthier), you need to take a different perspective. So, let’s try a perspective switch!…

What are 3 things that you’re proud of? It doesn’t matter whether someone else is proud of them. (They may or may not be. ) What matters is that you are proud of them.

Ok, I’ll go first. I’m proud that…

  • My baby girl has been refusing to nap in her bassinet… but she is napping there right now!
  • I am living and managing this pandemic in the best way I can
  • I am a trauma survivor

All of the above-mentioned things took a lot of preparation, effort, and courage. On a day-to-day basis, though, I sometimes forget and/or am distracted by other things and/or choose to focus on other things.

Encouragement and inspiration to… identify 3 things you’re proud of, show yourself some compassion… and give yourself a pat on the back.

You can do it! Let’s tell ourselves the truth, about what we’ve done — and more so, who we are. You are loved, adequate, and full of worth. Just by being… you! xoxo
