A Resiliency Pause is when you … pause, in order to build your capacity for resiliency. 💓 Bringing certain thoughts to mind correspond with certain sensations of well-being in your body, which amazingly enough can directly help support our bodies, minds, and spirits. So I’d like to teach it to you right now:
You ask yourself questions like,
- What or who uplifts you?
- What or who gives you strength?
- What or who sustains you?
- What or who helps you get through hard times?*
If you can, try to notice what is happening inside your body as you bring to mind these answers. And ask yourself, are these inner sensations pleasant, unpleasant, neutral, or something else?
Some sensations that I notice after I ask myself these questions are: a deep breath, a smile, spaciousness and a warm tingly feeling. Many of us today don’t learn to be attuned to what’s happening inside our bodies. So if this feels unnatural to you, it probably is because it is! We can build our sensation word language– and awareness of it– through practice. 💓
Note: Sensations of well-being include both pleasant AND neutral sensations. (As long as they are not distressing, they are likely sensations of well-being).
We can use Resiliency pauses everyday, and they can be especially helpful during hard times.
Choosing to engage in a Resiliency Pause absolutely does not minimize or invalidate the pain and hardship that we might be experiencing. It is acknowledging the pain in the world and/or our own lives, AND choosing to be mindful of… what else is true.
May our resiliency grow and be nourished this June– and keep growing and keep being nourished throughout our lives.
Warmly,
Robyn
