Learn these skills to emotionally help us, now: the Help Now Skills

Maybe you need a nervous system reset? Seems like many of us do right now. In addition to the election, there are many individual and world stressors that might be bumping us outside our Resilient Zone in this moment).

Try this! Push your hands against the wall.

Pushing our hands against the wall is actually one of the formal “Help Now” Skills, created by the Community Resiliency Model (one of the models I’m trained in.)

What are Help Now Skills, Robyn?

I’m glad you asked. 💕: These are tangible things we can try to help us move toward a grounded state where we are back in our Resilient Zone/Window of Tolerance.

They can be especially helpful when we’re really stressed, dysregulated, triggered, and/or dissociated. They can also be helpful whenever we just need a little help engaging (from a state of hypoarousal) or calming down (from a state of hyperarousal).

I’ve created visuals of the Community Resiliency Model’s 9 formal “Help Now Skills.” I’ll include them here. Feel free to try and see if they help at all!:

Why not try(!)— and see what happens. Using these skills will not eliminate the stressors… but hopefully they’ll help us be present and then help us be able to manage the stressors better. May our emotional health be bouyed, supported and strengthened.

💕, Robyn

Thanks for sharing these timely tips! ☺️

    1. Of course!! We can’t control some of our stressors, but we can intentionally do what we can to protect and support our precious nervous systems. 💕

Hi Robyn how are you doing? How is EMDR going for you? My baby was born in April and she is now about 7 months. She is doing great 🙂
